Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The tactile, proprioceptive, and vestibular senses are our most elemental ways to relate to the environment, they're with us from the earliest nervous system development in the womb. Problems in this area interfere with the ability to learn the basic skills that are the building blocks for others.

My students are a group of preschoolers ages 3-5.

They are enthusiastic hard working typical and special education students. Most of the children with special needs in my class experience sensory integration disorders. Some of the students in my classroom are from families who do not have the means or resources at home to provide practice for the educational, and sensory experiences learned in the classroom.

My Project

In my classroom I have several children with special needs. Having special seating allows these children to be more successful in different areas. Cube chairs are wonderful for many children, they allow the child to feel more secure. They are able to focus on stories, songs and table activities because they can process the information when their other sensory needs are met. The cube chairs can be used at a variety of centers and for many activities, they are able to be flipped upside down allowing the children to sit on their knees or bottoms and use as tables. Many children have tactile sensory issues, using activity tubs with modeling sand can be a great experience in tactile aversion. Individual tubs will allow the children to experience a variety of "messy media" to explore.

Young children learn to interpret the world around them through their senses.

If the information comes in all wrong or cannot be processed properly, the world is a confusing place. When children feel comfortable and secure in their surroundings, they are able to focus better. When children focus they are able to attend and experience a wide variety of learning.
