Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work with incredible and resilient students at a Title I school. Our school is one of the largest in the district, serving about 1,000 students ranging from Kindergarten to 6th grade and come from diverse backgrounds. Over 90% of our students come from low-income households.

Knowing that many of our students have experienced significant hardships in their young lives, our school works hard to support our students in their social and emotional development.

I am so lucky to be one of two school social workers for our school. Together, we work hard to teach our students social and emotional skills in the classroom, through group work, and individually.

My Project

I dam asking for an Indoor Sensory Pathways for my Autism, ADHD, ADD students. This will help to increase their cognitive functioning and reduce sensory seeking behaviors.

Using the Sensory Paths Decals, my sensory overloaded kids will be able to complete a series of movements that are designed to release their blocked paths and allow their bodies and brains to refocus.

These activities can be great for kids with sensory processing issues and ADHD, but all kids can benefit. Children who are having a hard time regulating and/or focusing they can come use the sensory path, which requires them to jump, bend, breathe, and move. This allows the sensory buildup in a child's body to release and kids are then able to get back to a successful day of learning.
