Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Many of my students (92%) live below the poverty line and have never had the opportunity to create art outside of my classroom especially since the start of COVID. Last year, students made art at home with limited supplies like crayons and markers. They are wonderfully creative and deserve every opportunity inside my classroom to create masterpieces of all kinds. This year I would love to give them the best art experience possible. I strive to give them a well-rounded art education using every possible medium. We create with heart at our school.
Our artists have big dreams, but they need help to have the supplies necessary to create beautiful art.

My Project
At my school, I have the absolute pleasure of teaching students with a variety of disabilities.
Their abilities are all so different but that won’t stop us from creating beautiful art.
This project will allow my students to experience art in different ways. Toy cars, bubble wrap, and LEGO are excellent tools for printmaking.
I would also love to give my students the opportunity to build their very own sensory jar. This is where the glitter, glue, water beads, and plastic bottles come in.
We often finish lessons very quickly and need activities to fill the rest of our time together. My student currently can build with blocks, read a book, or use straws and connectors. With these materials, we will be able to easily transition into another art-making experience during our time together like building with foam. Some of these materials will be great just for early finishing days and can be reused for many classes throughout the school year.
