Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is determined to make everyone feel as part of one big family. My students come from low-income families that have had an insane year dealing with their children staying at home, and finding childcare for them. Those students were not able to be in the classroom and the ones that were here had to wear masks and be 6ft apart from everyone making interactions minimal.

My students are excited to start school as normally as they can; they are enthusiastic learners.

When we were in school, they loved when we would do centers or when I would read to them. They always asked questions and were excited when they got things right. And when they did not, they loved working with each other to figure things out. Students are usually eager to come to our classroom when it looks happy and organized. I believe that the environment that a teacher provides affects their learning and behavior.

My Project

The 2020-21 school year was hectic. Students and teachers wore masks and the social connections students usually have during the year were very non-existent. Students were not able to interact or enjoy the classroom, and in some cases, they had to remain at home.

The goal for educators should be to give students the best education possible.

That is most definitely mine.

My hope is to make the experience for the next school year a safe, fun and interactive space for my students. I want them to love their classroom and be excited to come to school every day. There is a lot of research that classroom design has the power to impact students' well-being and motivation. Students spend a large amount of their time at school, and this space should be as safe and welcoming as possible. With that being said all the decorations listed here are in hopes to create a safe environment for my students and improving their learning. Additionally, all the organizing bins would be used as storage for manipulatives and school supplies. I want my students to know exactly where everything is and for them to be able to have ownership of the classroom as well.

The gift cards from TeachersPayTeachers will help tremendously as well since I will be able to purchase activities that will align with our district's objectives. Students will have different ways of learning and that will help all succeed in the school year.
