Before receiving these, many students either lacked access to a calculator or were hesitant to use one effectively. Now, every student is able to actively participate in lessons without feeling left behind due to a lack of resources.\r\n\r\nThe calculators have made a noticeable difference in both confidence and engagement. Students who previously struggled with multi-step problems are now more willing to attempt problems, check their answers, and stay engaged throughout the lesson. Instead of getting stuck on basic computation, they can focus on understanding concepts and problem-solving strategies.\r\n\r\nOne of the most exciting changes has been seeing students who were once hesitant begin to take academic risks. Having consistent access to calculators has created a more equitable learning environment where all students can contribute, practice, and grow. Your support has truly helped remove a barrier and given my students the tools they need to feel capable and successful in math.","fullyFundedDate":1773607398292,"projectUrl":"project/closing-learning-gaps-with-hands-on-math/10140493/","projectTitle":"Closing Learning Gaps with Hands-On Math Materials","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Petersen","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10393633"},{"teacherId":6274575,"projectId":10061925,"letterContent":"Your generous donation of a color printer, laminating machine, and supplies has had an immediate impact on speech therapy services. Instead of being stored in boxes where items were often forgotten or damaged, jackets are now hung up, visible, and easy for students to look through.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the new setup, many were surprised and excited to finally be able to find items they had been missing. It also made a big difference for students who needed a jacket, as they could comfortably look through the options and choose something that fit their needs. What used to feel like a pile of lost items now feels like a small, organized resource space that students can actually use.\r\n\r\nWe have already seen more students checking the lost and found and reclaiming their belongings, and the donated jackets are being used right away by students who need them. This has helped students feel more prepared and comfortable during the school day.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, we plan to continue building on this system by keeping the area organized and encouraging students to check for their belongings regularly. We also hope to continue working with community partners to provide additional items when needed. In science and social studies, students are learning how to read informational texts closely — asking questions, noticing key details, and connecting new knowledge to what we're studying in class. In math, they're strengthening problem-solving skills by carefully reading and breaking down multi-step word problems.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom looks busy in the best way. You'll see students spread out with books in hand, sticky notes marking exciting moments, partners debating character choices, and small groups discussing new vocabulary like real scholars. There are gasps during read-alouds, proud smiles when someone makes a strong text connection, and lots of \"Wait — listen to this part!\"\r\n\r\nSome of my quieter students have found their confidence through these books. One student who rarely volunteered now eagerly shares facts during science discussions.
