Genuine kindness and a compassionate community. Those are the words that come to mind instantly when reflecting on my group of learners this year. Our school is nestled in the Schoharie River Valley and majestic surrounding mountains. Students have a connection to nature unlike in many other schools. We help family cut wood or harvest crops whenever we aren't in school. We work hard both at school and at home. Being that we are in a very rural setting, high speed internet is not something we all have at home. For this reason it is paramount that while in school everyone has an opportunity to access the internet to both support and enrich their education. Currently we have 3 desktop computers in class and we are so good at sharing computer time, but a few more computers/tablets would go a long way! You will be contributing to the futures of bright, kind, and hard working children who have the work ethic and only the technology, to have explosive growth as learners.
My Project
In a class of varying reading abilities, it is nearly impossible to have a large variety of books for each student that is both ability appropriate and engaging. Our class is made up of below grade level readers all the way up to beyond grade level readers. To keep students personally invested in the growth of their literacy, new and interesting books are crucial. This project, your donation, holds the potential to change a student’s view of reading. We have all come across that one book that changed everything for us, and you could provide that experience for a growing learner.
