This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
What if we could see the world through the eyes of inner-city adolescents?
As the yearbook coordinator for my K-8 Charter School, I am constantly inspired by the images my middle school students notice and create. By carrying a digital camera with them throughout their day, they offer us a sneak peek into their world; a world of beauty and joy that is often off-limits to adults.
The 6th - 8th grade students who have joined my Yearbook Photography Club this year are thrilled to experiment with composition, color, flash, subjects and perspective.
I am currently teaching 40 students... yet I only have 5 cameras! This severely limits the amount of hands-on experience each student can have with a camera. While I offer my students opportunities to study famous photographers and various photo styles and techniques, I feel that hands-on application and practice is the only way my students can truly develop a style of their own.
I am really hoping to have five digital cameras donated to our Yearbook Photography Club in order to increase the number of opportunities my students will have to use a camera. If we receive five digital cameras, the members of our club will be in possession of a camera for at least one week per month! If we double the number of cameras we have in our club, the students will have twice as many chances to practice the styles and techniques of the famous photographers they are learning about!
If ever you wanted to see the world through the eyes of inner-city adolescents, this is the group to support! These budding photographers will amaze, inspire and entertain through their honest imagery and unique perspectives. Please help me give my photography students as many opportunities as possible to explore the world through the lens of a digital camera by making a donation today :)
