Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students here are extremely multicultural and diverse. This is a k-8 school that over 1,200 students attend. Our school is full of amazing individuals learning how to express themselves in a new language for the first time. Many of our students are ESL, speaking Spanish or Portuguese as their first language.
Our school receives free breakfast and lunch from feeding America that any student can eat if they need it.
Despite the hardships our students encounter outside of school they are eager to learn and excited to come into class and express themselves.
My Project
In our art and music hallway, we used to have bulletin boards to post work. We now have a stark white hallway between our classrooms. Our students and art teachers have expressed an interest in creating a mural in this hallway to brighten and excite our students while coming to creative classes. Our eighth graders are especially excited to leave something permanent behind.
We do not have any acrylic paint to start the mural and we have an art show coming up in April.
We would like all students to participate in painting the mural during class time and after school. Parents will be here to view the mural when they come to see the art show so we need supplies to start our collaborative project. It would be an amazing accomplishment for our students to create a mural together and have something to be proud of that they all had a part in creating.
