Do you remember your first day of Kindergarten? Did you sit on a rug for story-time?

Imagine a classroom of 32 Kindergrtners and 1 teacher!

Their minds are racing and their bodies are twitching with excitement. They want to explore and absorb. I go to class each day knowing that I have just a few hours to make an impact. I have a diverse group of children who are eager to learn and play. Many of the children are just learning their alphabet letters while others are reading. It is critical for me to make sure that everyone is learning or refining new skills, be it social or academic. One of the ways that helps me manage class size is a great, BIG, colorful sitting rug for the children.

My Project

This rug enables core and foundational Kindergarten skills - sitting still, listening and following directions. The first thing I do as we start our day is to settle my kids into a calm and consistent environment. I ask them to find their assigned square on the rug so that we can practice our alphabet sounds and counting skills as a group. For many of my students, this is the first time in their educational experience when they need to sit and listen for an extended period of time. This wonderfully colored rug will add fun and comfort to their experience while allowing me to quickly and easily organize the children. This very special rug has so many features that will aid me in my job. The children never forget where their spot is because colors are easy to remember and see. The rows of colors will allow me to call on different rows and give directions to each row of children. The size of the rug is perfect for my large sized class. It is durable and will last for years.

My Kindergrtners need a new rug so that they can start their life-long, learning journey on the right square!
