My students need graphic novels to inspire their love of literacy.

My Students

My students come from the largest school districts in the state of Connecticut.

We are also one of the largest schools in our district.

Most of my students live below the poverty line, in environments that are not conducive to learning, and sometimes in circumstances we couldn't imagine. Even with these things going on around them, they make it to school every day and have an insatiable love of learning. The smiles on their faces as they walk through my classroom door every morning is truly what makes me come back each day.

My Project

The graphic novels and books I am requesting are interpretations of the classic Nancy Drew series as well as some newer superhero literature (As it seems to be the trend right now).

Embracing current trends to inspire new readers is a crucial step towards developing a new generation of enthusiastic readers.

Through these interpretations and high interest stories I hope to help the children transition into the full chapter books that many of us grew up with 20 years ago. I want to take something I know they will enjoy and use it to inspire the use of their imagination.
