Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are so great. I have so many great stories about kids helping each other and also being respectful of the library. I have the privilege of seeing every student once a week. I want to give them so much more.
My students do not have the resources to go to the public library, let alone buy books.
My library contains mostly books from the 1980s. There are so many wonderful books that I wish I could give these kids. They are readers. I have students who always want more. They ask for specific subjects and I do not have enough. We have a pitiful amount.
I am looking around at the projects some of these students have completed and they are truly amazing. They are hardworking and great kids even when their personal lives could get in the way. I am so proud of these student as I hope everyone is who can positively effect their lives.
My Project
Last year 3rd grade researched endangered ocean animals. This year 2nd and 3rd grade classes are researching animals for projects. Teachers are giving their students a lot of options and our students need this library to be diverse and up to date.
The majority of the books I choose are encyclopedias.
Encyclopedias are a great resource to not only give information but help students decide what animal they want to research. The other books I chose are animals we do not currently have in the library.
Animals are in high demand. Students of all grade levels enjoy animal books. Every single class requests animal books. Animals are a simple subject with a lot of different options.
