Our school is full of energetic, rambunctious kids that are ready to learn! Unfortunately, many of them come from homes that live under the poverty line. This affects their home life, their school life, and their exposure to things that are different from their "norm." Five year olds are still learning how to communicate, collaborate and interact with our world. It is imperative that they learn these necessarily skills, and they cannot be taught through a lesson or a cook. They must be able to practice them in real time.
My students are asked to put a lot of their time and effort into the their learning, and as their teacher, I want to do my part to make it fun, engaging, and meaningful!
I
My Project
In Kindergarten, so much of our day involves sitting on the carpet in front of our Smart Board. We spent a lot of time there for lessons, listening to read alouds, having conversations, and more.
Kleen Slates are interactive white boards that will allow my students to interact with what we are learning in real time.
I can interchange the templates inside of the whiteboard to match what our lesson is, and they can use the attached dry erase marker to follow along on their board. This is a great way to check for understanding throughout the lesson rather than at the end.
Let's say for instance we are working on writing. I can place a writing template inside of their Kleen Slate and they can practice writing in real time as we are going through the lesson. They can then turn it around to show me and we can correct any errors right there on the carpet. This allows for additional practice before they go back to their seats to write it in their notebooks.
