A HeART full of Books

Help me give my students needed art supplies to showcase their creativity and books to help these new readers find something they enjoy reading.

My Students

Our school is a new school, so my students come from many different backgrounds. Some came from other states, while others opted for virtual or online schooling and others came from nearby schools. They have all been impacted by COVID-19.

The second graders in my class have had a unique school career, because the COVID-19 pandemic hit in the middle of their kindergarten year.

They are still catching up on the year and a half of learning that was affected by masks, virtual learning, at-home learning, and a world in chaos.

Even though we come from different backgrounds, we have built a classroom community. We focus on unity and inclusion. Many relationships have been founded and strengthened this year, in part because everyone is a "new kid." This has created a sense of community and belonging in a real and unique way.

My Project

This project will help my students succeed as readers, and show their creativity. The books will be added to our class library for independent reading, small group reading, and reading aloud. My hope is that the students will find a book that they enjoy reading and can relate to. This makes reading more fun and increases their ability to become book-lovers in the future.

The variety of books will allow the students to find something that interests them, and keep they joy of reading alive.

A love of reading is something I try to instill in each of my students.

This project also includes art supplies such as watercolors, markers, modeling clay, crayons and colored pencils. Art supplies will help students showcase their creativity in a variety of ways. This will boost their confidence and allow them to create in new ways.
