A Freezer for Our Future Scientists

Help me give my students a freezer so we can store materials that are needed for hands on experience in a Biotechnology class.

My Students

My favorite part about teaching is getting to enjoy my student's personalities. Each one of my students has their own individual and strong personality. No two student is the same which means that each student brings something different to the classroom. I like to step back quietly and just observe them interacting with each other. Like I said before, they have strong personalities and aren't afraid to let them shine. I truly appreciate this quality about them.

My Biotechnology students are incredibly curious.

They are always asking questions in order to dig deeper into the topic we are on. This often leads to impromptu class discussions. Sometimes I'll have a student who knows a nuance about our current topic and will get excited and tell it to the class. I love when I learn something too!

My Project

At the core of a Biotechnology class is a freezer. It's used for storing DNA, primers, proteins, cultures, etc. It's the piece of equipment the lab depends on.

I want to give my students the chance to feel like real Biotechnicians, and with this freezer I can give them that opportunity.

The students will be able to learn how to isolate and purify DNA and proteins, ligation, transformation, run a Gel and PAGE electrophoresis, and many other techniques that are commonplace in a working lab. By knowing these skills the students will be able to get a job or volunteer as a lab technician and advance their scientific careers. Please help me give my students that opportunity.
