This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from an inner-city school in Tennessee. We are in a low socioeconomic community with a large ESL population.

My students are eager to learn yet lack the basic foundational skills that are necessary to grow in reading, writing, and math.

The background knowledge and life experiences that make reading and comprehension easier are missing from most of our school population. The parents at our school are involved with their children and want them to succeed. They lack the funds necessary to provide anything other than the basics. The supplies would help us be more successful!

My Project

My students will use the materials to directly impact their learning. The bean bag chairs will be used to provide a comfy place for students to use during independent reading while guided reading groups are meeting. My students have built their reading stamina up to more than twenty minutes at a time and the chairs would provide a coveted place to sit and read.

The students at my school come from a low socioeconomic background and a high ESL population which makes it harder for them to succeed in first grade but having a larger background knowledge through books will help them become better readers.

My students work very hard throughout the year and these supplies to organize our library would make a big impact in our everyday work!
