Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach 27 five year olds that are in school for the very first time! They are eager to learn and love group time where they listen to read alouds, practice counting, and talk in sharing circle. I work hard to create a comfortable learning environment where the students can reach their potential.

All of my students are in school for the first time, never having attended preschool.

95% of them do not speak English at home, and none of them can count to ten or identify the letters in their name. I have my work cut out for me and we are busy every day working hard and trying to catch up! These sweet, young children are working extra hard just to catch up to where their peers of a higher economic status already are. I believe it's important for these struggling students to have a warm and fulfilling environment where they can be comfortable learning and trying their best.

My Project

I am asking for a colorful, kid friendly, classroom rug that can serve as the main teaching and learning area in our classroom. This rug will be used for all group instruction. It will keep the students grounded and focused as they improve their vocabulary and comprehension through read alouds, enhance listening skills through sharing circle, and practice their ABCs, counting, and much, much more! A rug may seem like a simple pleasure, but I think it's reasonable to create an environment that puts the students' interest first. I want to encourage the students to get comfy, focus, and learn together, and the class carpet is a perfect place to do just that! I believe that maximizing the comforts of my classroom keeps the students' best interest in mind, allowing them to really enjoy school and encouraging them to do their best.

This rug will show the students that our classroom is the place for them - it's a fun place to learn together, try hard, and strive for success. Your donation will show them that they are individuals of value and deserve such simple and joyful pleasures.
