We have taken these resources (books) and begun shared reading with students who have at least a few letter sounds; coaching them on concepts of print (left to right, sweeping etc.) and blending simple words. \r\nStudents sat with us and many reported, \"I don't know how to read those books\" or simply \"I don't know how to read.\" After reading with an adult ALL children were proud to take the book back to their desk reporting to others along the way, \"I can read this real book!\" \r\nWe will continue this practice and fold in more students as they are obtaining their concepts of print. Because of your support, my students were able to learn the valuable skill of crocheting in a fun and encouraging environment. Each week, they met for one hour to practice, problem-solve, and build confidence while learning a skill that takes patience and perseverance. It was wonderful to watch their excitement grow as they mastered new stitches and encouraged one another along the way.\r\n\r\nYour kindness also allowed each student to take home their own special crochet kit in a personalized canvas bag with their name printed on it. Inside, they received yarn, a crochet hook, and knitting needles so they could continue practicing at home. This made the experience even more meaningful, as they now have the tools to keep creating long after the club has ended.\r\n\r\nWe are so grateful for your generosity and belief in our students. Learning to crochet is more than just a hobby—it builds creativity, focus, and confidence. With the new handwriting materials, my students are strengthening their transcription skills in a fun and purposeful way. We are using these resources daily to practice correct letter formation while simultaneously reinforcing sound-symbol connections. One especially powerful moment happened during a dictation lesson when a student who previously struggled to write simple words was able to independently spell and write a full sentence. Her ability to form letters correctly, provided her the cognitive power to really work on figuring out the sounds she heard to the letters she formed, building both confidence and accuracy.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, my students were genuinely excited. They were eager to use the new tools and took pride in practicing their handwriting. What stood out most was their sense of ownership (students began to notice their own progress and even supported one another) reminding peers about proper formation and sounds. The materials made handwriting feel engaging and purposeful rather than a routine task.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, we will continue to build on these skills by continuing to reinforce letter formation as a tool for fluent writing. Our next steps include applying these strengthened transcription skills to more complex spelling patterns and longer sentence writing. Focusing on transcription skills, we have been able to solidifying the alphabetic principle through consistent, intentional practice and students are becoming more confident readers and writers.
