My Project

Every morning, my first graders gather together to build community, learn new skills, and begin their day. Our classroom meeting area is where we read stories, practice phonics and math, set goals, celebrate successes, and learn important leadership habits. Right now, however, we don’t have a designated rug that gives every child a comfortable space of their own.

A classroom rug with individual seating spots would make a tremendous difference.

Each circle provides students with their own personal learning space, helping reduce distractions, encourage independence, and make transitions smoother throughout the day. Instead of spending valuable instructional time reminding students where to sit, they will immediately know where they belong, allowing us to focus on learning.

As a first-grade teacher, I strive to create a warm, welcoming classroom where every child feels safe, included, and excited to learn. This rug will become the heart of our classroom—a place where students will gather for read-alouds, phonics lessons, morning meetings, collaborative discussions, and celebrations. It will support both academic growth and the sense of belonging that every young learner deserves.
