A Book Is A Gift

My students need a copy of "Hatchet" by Gary Paulsen. I have 75 students.

I teach 6th grade Language Arts. Many of my students read below grade level. By giving them a gift, the book "Hatchet" by Gary Paulsen, I hope to prove to them that reading really is a gift.

If reading is difficult for a child they tend to avoid reading. BUT if I give them an interesting, heart stopping book then they can't wait to read. Gary Paulsen's book is an excellent book to use to teach all the literary elements in the 6th grade curriculum.

I need 75 "Hatchet" books to wrap up like a present and give as a gift to my students. Then they can take them home, write in them and call them their own.

I have read this novel before with 6th graders. They love it. For many it is the first novel they have ever read. It is also a highly motivational book for boys. By providing this book for my students I hope to encourage them to start reading and collecting more books.
