A Bite To Eat

Help me give my students access to a snack during their learning days. My students come from families who often struggle with food insecurity which can lead to anxiety and stress for students that impacts learning.

My Students

My students are creative, energized, and thoughtful explorers! They are 7-year-olds who are looking to see themselves reflected in our curriculum and learning. We are located in an urban setting, where community members struggle with poverty, violence, and substance abuse. My hope is to build a classroom community that is a safe haven for my students, with the help of my students!

These students are looking for a secure, love-filled, and welcoming learning environment - and it is my goal to create that.

My Project

Looking to your classroom for consistent meals is often not a persons first thought unless they have lived through the experience themselves. 95% of the student population at my school comes from a household that is designated as economically disadvantaged. This means the scholars can come to school looking for a majority of their necessary food each day.

Coming to school hungry is detrimental to young learners.

Focusing on lessons can feel impossible, stomach aches and headaches run rampant, and the idea of going home at the end of the day feels stressful. My school provides our scholars with free breakfast and lunch every school day. This helps students and their families immensely but there is more that can be done.

As the end of the day nears, many of my students become antsy and will express feelings related to wanting to stay at school. While this makes my heart full with the understanding that they feel safe and comfortable in my classroom, I also know that they appreciate the consistencies that come with a daily schedule and food when they need it. Your donation can allow for snacks to be eaten in the classroom or taken home to support these students as they grow their brains and the bodies!
