My Students

My school is a Title I school that sits in the heart of Washington, DC. I have a group of fourth and fifth-grade students who are fun-loving, eager to learn new things, excited about school and love to read. My classroom would be considered a melting pot of cultural heritage and social needs. Many of my students have been in the US for less than two years. They inspire me every day to do my best to address their needs.

To meet their needs, we incorporate a variety of learning strategies, group work, alternative seating, and learning options to ensure that each student's needs are met, right where they are!

My Project

5th Grade Math is tough! Students are adding fractions with unlike denominators, finding volume of compound figures, and determining the area of shapes with mixed number lengths. There are many steps and each step needs careful attention. Though the body wants to wander, the mind must be still.

Wobbly chairs lets students make small movements while studying to maintain focus.

Students in my other classroom have received these chairs and actively seek them out. I am asking for another set so that both math classrooms of 5th grade have access to the same benefits. With Donor's help, students will have greater comfort in their academic pursuits.
