This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Going into 5th grade can be a little scary. I want my students to be successful and prepared from the moment they walk into my room at the beginning of the year!

The students in the 5th grade class at our school have been through a lot over the past few years.

From the time they were in second grade they always had 1st year teachers and have seen many changes happen at our school. This will be the second time these students and I will be together. I had many of them when they were in first grade. 5th grade is a huge year for them. It is the year before they are official middle school students and need to learn a lot. We are a proudly public city school, so my students come in with a lot of personal baggage. I want them to have a place in school that they feel they can be successful and enjoy learning!

My Project

This year in math and reading students will be pushed greatly to make tremendous advances in their levels. I want to push my students and prepare them for their first year in middle school next year. I believe the materials my class is asking for will do just that. They will become more confident using money and decimals. That is a huge skill they need to master for daily life. I want them to feel confident when they go to a restaurant or the mall and have to add tip by multiplying by a percentage. These materials will not only prepare them from the next school year, but also their time outside of school.

The students in this class are very special to me.

I have known them since they were 6 years old and have seen them grow over the past 4 years. I want them to gain skills and enjoy the school year as much as I will. This will be the first year I am teaching 5th grade, so we will learn from each other. These materials and your support will help us reach our goals and have a successful school year!
