Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a teacher in a low-income, high poverty school district, my scholars face several challenges both in-and-out of the classroom. Many of my scholars are being raised in a single-parent household and over 95% receive free breakfast and, or lunch based on their socioeconomic status.

Sadly some of my scholars also have or know of a family member that has served time in prison.

Simply put, the positive influences in their early life tend to stem only from school experiences, period.

Despite their challenges, my scholars have a tenacious and determined attitude to want to succeed and attend college or learn a trade of their choice. They are also innovative, creative, and genuine in wanting to learn.

My students enjoy engineering challenges, where they are planning, conceptualizing, modeling, and building. They have, on numerous accounts, proving that science should be categorized as a 'verb' vice a noun. Hence, we (scholars, parents, and staff) try to integrate art, social studies, and health and wellness into every lab experiment and, or investigation conducted.

My Project

As referenced in Educational Technology and Mobile Learning, using this prototyping technology allows students to produce realistic 3-dimensional mini-models which are great for science, technology, engineering, architecture, and multi-media arts students.

As an example, I will be able to explain the physics and science behind the toy craze that has swept our nation, The Fidget Spinner, with the use of this 3D printer and resin.

My students will appreciate that the spinner is nothing more than applying Newton’s Laws of Motion, while they envision and create their own engineering masterpieces.

3D printing will make it easy for our campus to seize the interest of the students compared to just showing the pictorial representations of objects.
