3D Printing Magic Lithophane

Help me give my students a 3D printer and filament to create awesome projects.

My Students

My students ask many questions that direct their learning. They thrive on doing activities that foster creativity, problem-solving skills, and imagination.

I also consider my class a junior United Nations.

We're a mix of races and nationalities, and with this comes a range of experiences and points of view. We embrace this uniqueness and integrate it into our daily lives within and outside the classroom walls.

We're a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) certified school that integrates all curricular areas through inquiry learning. Teaching and learning are made exciting by solving real-world problems. My students work hands-on to learn both academic and life lessons.

My Project

Lithophane is a process of 3D printed embossed photographs that don't show up easily until you hold them up to the light. They are a cool medium that I would like to do with my students. The process is easy: you generate a 3D file to print using a photograph and free software. Then you send it to your printer. At first, it looks like just a piece of plastic. Look closer and you see something embossed on it. Hold it up to the light and you see a photograph!

Imagine the joy of a parent receiving a plastic heart and realizing it's a photograph of their child!

My students can easily do this with the requested 3D printer and the special filament. I'm also requesting a few extra rolls of black and blue filament for other projects. This project really has me excited!
