My Students

My 6th grade students attend public school in a large urban district. They are diverse culturally, socio-economically, and academically. They share a strong commitment to community and a passion for reading, and they approach each academic discipline with genuine curiosity and a sense of purpose.

Each year, students contribute to a Book Wish List, and request books that they'd like to see in our library, books they want to read now.

These are the most important texts for their reading lives, the books they choose to read.

In addition, I need to complete my collection of KidsDiscover Magazines to provide individual copies of this non-fiction text resource, so students don't need to share their copy as they did preCOVID. Our previous worn collection was mostly replaced with the exception of these copies.

My Project

Each student in my homeroom recently completed a wish list survey to indicate the books they want to see in our library. As they browsed websites for recommendations, they considered diversity of authors and main characters as well as books published within the last 5 years.

Perhaps the most important reading my students will do this year, is that of the books they choose.

Contributing to my project will help me get books my students want in their hands now. There is nothing more satisfying than seeing their excitement at receiving the books they ask for. Help me keep my eager adolescent students reading.
