Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Due to my students being from a Title 1 school, these kids are opening my heart in so many ways. They are goofy and silly with me, even in these tough times. They come from various, tough backgrounds and yet, they put it aside to learn to be the best students they can be. I came into the classroom October 2021, being their 3rd and final teacher they would have for their 2nd grade year. I came from teaching in a very fortunate area, only being a part-time intervention teacher, to a full-time teacher in an area where kids need a bit more care. I wouldn't trade this opportunity in for the world.

Many students have various home troubles and due to the pandemic, have had little in-person school experience.

I want to give them the best and most normal in-person school year they can have, while dealing with outside life pressure.

My Project

My students come from various backgrounds that I have a hard time wrapping my brain around. With their struggles, I wanted to provide my students with ways to get their wiggles out without breaking the bank. The bands will be used for my students who just can't sit still (which is more than half). My students have also had 3 different 2nd grade teachers and I want to be the best and last. The calming strips will help all my students relax throughout the day and help the ones who like to pick at anything in front of them.

These kids give so much love and I am hoping to make their school environment as comfortable as possible, due to them losing almost a year and a half in a school setting.

With that being said, over 75% of my students are not at a 2nd grade level in reading, writing, and math. Out of my 21, I also have 7 English Language learners. Starting out as a first year teacher, any advice and resources are greatly appreciated!
