This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Energetic, eager, and excited! Our class is a hands on learning class that is made up of a diverse learners and needs. We are a functional living skills classroom that includes 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders. Learning a new concept takes us a much longer amount of time than most, but our teachers work to provide us life application opportunities to solidify the lessons and create a strong foundation for learning.

My Project

Some of our scholars are struggling with basic number and alphabet skills. We are hands on learners that struggle with writing due to motor skills obstacles. It sometimes takes over a year or even three to master basic skills.

We love to monkey around, therefore, counting and alphabet monkeys would be a tremendous asset to use to create number lines, addition, subtraction, simply placing in order, adding, and ordinal numbers.

Alphabet monkeys would pair well with our Chicka Chicka Boom Boom trees to math with the uppercase letters, spell our names, and work on letter sounds. We would also appreciate some organization bins for our centers. We also LOVE playdough and could utilize this to stamp out our vocabular and names as simply holding a pencil and composing words can be extremely difficult for some of us.
