Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are bilingual, but they are struggling to learn the English Language. The demographics my students come from does not foster a reading rich environment. My job is to immerse them in a reading rich environment that will expose them to more English vocabulary.

My students come from an economically disadvantaged district.

Their parents are unable to provide a reading rich environment due to their level of education. Some parents are unable to meet the needs of their children because they have to work two jobs to survive. Given their circumstances, my students love and enjoy school despite their hardships. In some cases school is the only thing they have to look forward to.

My Project

My students need a teaching easel for our Reading Circle. I plan to bring reading stories to life by creating a Q&A thinking circle. My plan is to create in my students a desire to want to read. I hope to also create a curiosity to explore the world through reading. Each time I read a story to my students, I try to inspire curiosity in students to make them want to read. I hope a comfortable environment will do just that.

Reading is the root of education.

The more you read the more you know. As a child I read everything I could get my hands on and I saw my vocabulary as well as my spelling improve. My knowledge about the world around me was more advanced because I was a reader. I hope through reading my students will learn about the world, thereby expanding their knowledge and using that knowledge in the real world to become successful adults.
