My Students

Relate! Relate! Relate! This is the challenge that most students face when they pick up a book that is required for the school year.

My students attend a large public school in the state of Virginia.

They come from a variety of backgrounds, and are composed of many nationalities. They are smart, motivated, and will try their best to complete any task provided to them. They are in average as well as honors courses.

My Project

These resources will help my students in a great way. I would like to give my students the opportunity to experience a novel that they can relate to without having to decipher or decode language with which they are unfamiliar. These novels will also tie into our future unit dealing with Shakespeare. Students will be able to read Shakespeare and have an open and clear view of the main elements. These novels will also aid in the students' tasks of constructing comparison and contrast essays.

This project is very important because it gives students a more realistic insight into the unit.

While they will read some notarized text, I believe that they will be more opened to experience what they deem to be "ancient" when they have a more realistic and tangible approach. Sure, Romeo and Juliet can be related to life, but students do not grasp that concept amongst the Shakespearean language. What better way to compare Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet to everyday life.
