Ready, set, ACTION! Have you ever dreamed of having your own radio show? Have you ever just wanted to create something of your won? Through the world of podcasting, "Project Kid Cast" will enable students to enhance their learning and engage more actively in their curriculum.
Our children at our elementary school are awesome!
Many of the visitors who come to our school often comment on how respectful and charming our kids are. They love to learn and create. Often, due to the economic disadvantage they are faced with, they do not get to have the same experiences other children their age enjoy. Our town is a sparsely populated, rural town in Alabama. The median household income here ($26,875) is significantly lower than US average. Our Elementary School is considered high poverty. Until recently this year, our school did not have a computer lab and many classrooms had less than 3 computers. Great strides have been made to enhance our technology situation but we have a long way to go. The vast majority of our students do not have a computer in their homes. The ability to use current technology would greatly enhance their learning.
My Project
We are requesting materials to equip a sound studio within our developing computer lab. We would like to have noise canceling headphones, microphones, a sound mixer, a laptop dedicated to podcasting use, an iPad to listen to podcasts and furniture to store our equipment.
Student who podcast will not only meet state mandated technology objectives by each grade level, but in all other subject matter as well.
They will have the opportunity to collaborate with other students, utilize new technology tools, build confidence in their ability to communicate with others, carry their learning over to stakeholders outside the school walls, reach a global audience, plan and participate in a team project and research in order to further their understanding of a topic.
