From Sheep to Shelter: Charity Crochet and Knitting

My students need yarn, 3 sets of crochet and knitting needles to make scarves and hats for the homeless New Yorkers.

My Students

Eleanor Roosevelt said, "No one can make you feel inferior without your consent."

My students are like every other group of middle-school students in the nation, struggling to find their place in the world.

Unfortunately, they have the added burden of coming from families in poverty and many are without permanent housing. Most painfully, my students feel that the world is against them and their situations are permanent. In my class, I try to focus their attention on the impact they can have in the broader community. Helping those who have even less than them, gives my students a way to value themselves without devaluing others.

My Project

I am requesting supplies to start up a charity crochet and knitting club for my students. This club will allow students to make hats and scarfs for needy people across our community. The mission of this club is to give students skills that will help them give back to the community and build their self confidence. The requested yarn, needles, and hooks will give my students a chance to make a positive contribution to our community.
