My Students

"If we teach today as we taught yesterday, then we rob our children of tomorrow” -John Dewey. In today's world, students need access to current technology, integrated throughout the curriculum, that they can use to express their learning and their ideas.

My 3rd and 4th grade scholars work together in our combined-grade-level classroom to learn from each other as they participate in group science projects, class social studies discussions, math problem solving activities, and oral/written presentations.

Our hands-on, student-centered classroom focuses on inquiry-based learning and student-led discoveries. My students thrive on being able to use technology to 1) document their learning, 2) enhance their own understanding of both content and technology, and 3) share their learning with their classmates as they present their findings to their peers.

My Project

With 6 digital cameras for my students to share, they will be able to work in small groups of 4 or 5 to take photos and shoot videos of social studies projects, science investigations, literature discussions, and math strategy talks. For example, as each group conducts an investigation on magnetism, they could take photos of which classroom items are magnetic and which are not. They could then categorize their photos into two folders, respectively. After they upload the photos to our shared drive on a student computer in our room, they could then use our document camera to project the photos onto our screen as they discussed their findings. This technology will enable them the opportunity to both document the process of their learning as well as to share their learning with other groups. As they learn to efficiently and effectively work with the cameras and the computer software for the cameras, their ability to use and understand this technology will also increase.
