My Students

OHS Community of Schools Construction students will build their 3rd Habitat for Humanity House this school year. This project was chosen as a national finalist by Microsoft last Summer at its national Innovative Educator Forum. This year students will create a video documenting their work.

Construction, architecture, and engineering students at the OHS Community of Schools will build their third Habitat for Humanity House this school year.

These students attend the Math, Engineering, Technology, and Science School -- a campus of small schools who are part of the Bill and Melinda Gates Small School movement. Our campus of 5 high schools embrace project-based learning since converting to a small school business model 4 years ago. Proficiency scores on end of course tests have increased by 65% as a result of the school's transformation. Construction mastery level test scores have increased by over 100% since students became engaged with this unique, authentic, real world project.

My Project

My students need a camcorder to build 21st century technology and media skills. Our small schools are committed to helping students develop the skills necessary to become successful in school, work, and life. A key 21st century skill is media and technology skills. This year students will add a new dimension to this nationally recognized project by creating, filming, and editing a video which documents this amazing story so Habitat for Humanity can use it as a promotional video.

This project adds a new dimension which helps students build a bridge between hands-on skills and creative mediums.
