Project Projection: Illuminating Teen Minds (& a Classroom!)

My students need a projector so that we can view Power Points, use educational streaming videos, play interactive review games, and access my online classroom web page.

My Students

In an effort to "go green" and be "tech savvy," I have created an online classroom web page that contains all classroom handouts, Power Points, interactive review games, online links, educational video clips, etc. However, without an LCD Projector, this web page has minimal student impact.

My students are sophomores and juniors who are very academically driven.

They are surrounded by technology (we live in an area known as the "Research Triangle"), but due to budget cuts, we lack the ability to have projectors in each classroom. They are extremely eager to learn and use new technology if given the opportunity.

My Project

With an LCD projector, we can not only "go green," but we can also have a classroom the engages students from the moment they walk into the classroom until the moment they leave. For example, while studying early American Literature, I can begin the class with an online "virtual" tour of Jamestown followed by a short educational video clip detailing the lives of early settlers using streamline video from the web. Next, we can briefly overview the key literature elements of this period through a PowerPoint presentation where the information becomes "interesting" with links, photos, and sounds. Finally, we can access unit review games, projects, activities, and handouts from my web page as a class. Contrast all of this "interaction" with the monotonous hum and white light of a traditional overhead projector, and one can see the need for an LCD's "illumination."

I can guarantee you that we will use this projector every day in every class.

We learn the best when our "senses" are engaged, and an LCD Projector will allow the students to see and hear photographs, video clips, handouts, projects, etc. in a new and intriguing way. Please help illuminate not only our physical classroom but more importantly the minds of today's youth!
