"Never trust anything that can think for itself if you can't see where it keeps its brain." ~ J.K. Rowling. I am a 6th grade teacher at a school that serves low income students.
My students come from a diverse population.
Although most are from low income families, many are from military and "blue collar" families who want to see their children go to college. It is very difficult to get my students to read, especially the required sixth grade core literature (A.K.A. "Bore" literature).
By introducing my students to The Red Pyramid, Book #1 in the Kane Chronicles series, I hope to spark their interest in reading and provide them with an interesting journey through Ancient Egypt. The setting is presented in the present tense and the main characters are the same ages as my students. These components will make the content easier for my students to relate to, and a more interesting and fun reading experience.
My students need every opportunity possible to ignite a love for learning.
I want them not only to value education, but to enjoy school as well. I hope that by providing my students with entertaining reading they will continue to read, and will be more inclined to go to college. I thank you so much for taking the time to consider my reading project.
