My Students

Remember the feeling of singing and dancing to your favorite cartoon, song, show etc. This feeling that is so care free and enjoyable. We're looking for that feeling in our classroom. We believe that if you can help bring us ELMO we'll be able to love our learning and take it to a new degree.

We all know that their is a great achievement gap that exists within our nation.

I personally believe that this achievement gap widens when we have a lack of technology in the class. I teach first grade in a high poverty public school. We do not have a high percentage of parent involvement and since most of them are from low income households, they are not able to provide financial support. My school is a focus school which means that over 75% of our students are on free or reduced lunch. Many of my students come to school without pencils, paper and/or clean clothes. They lack the resources they need to fit their learning needs and learning styles. My students are very competitive and learn best through peer interaction and technology integration whenever possible. I know this ELMO would help us not only become more knowledgeable as a class but as citizens of a well rounded, technology driven world.

My Project

Our ELMO would allow us to use more realistic methods in our learning. We'd be able to bring in leaves and examine them like true scientist. The opportunity to see writing modeled by both teachers and students is endless and the never ending usage of math manipulatives to become first class problem solvers in will be used on a consistent basis. Our class will learn how to learn through a more interactive hands on way and allows them to become leaders, "teachers" and grade one experts for all to see.
