I teach a first grade class in a high poverty public school. We do not have a high percentage of parent involvement and since most of them are from low income households, they are not able to provide financial support. My school is a focus school which means that over 75% of our students are on free or reduced lunch. Many of my students come to school without pencils, paper and/or clean clothes. They lack the resources they need to fit their learning needs and learning styles. My students are very competitive and learn best through peer interaction and technology integration whenever possible.
