My Students

E.E. Cummings wrote, "It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are." My special education students struggle with being themselves academically and socially every day. Core depts received projectors for their rooms, except SpEd. I want my students to know they are as important as others

My students are in grades 6-8 at a medium sized middle school in NY.

The population we work with is all special education, ranging from learning disabilities and ADHD to multiple severe disabilities. Most of them come from lower-income homes which do not have technology available to them. We try to utilize as much technology as possible in our classrooms to make them familiar with using it.

My Project

We have just recently obtained an overhead projector for 3 of our 5 special education rooms. We can't afford SmartBoards, so having an ELMO is the next best thing! Students and teachers can edit assignments while they are projected onto a large screen at the front of the class. Students can participate interactively. Teachers can model step by step instructions, while it is magnified for all to see! Finally, (and most importantly), our students will be able to model activities and work they have completed to others... "Learn by teaching," as we like to call it!

This ELMO will be shared throughout our building special education department.

12 different teachers and their students will have access. Not only our hard-of-seeing students, but ALL students benefit from having examples magnified onto a large screen. Our students love to participate in hands on activities and share their knowledge with their peers. Please make a difference for our school by donating towards this great cause! Thanks!
