This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Learning to read has always been a challenge for DEAF and Hard of Hearing students who are language delayed and ultimately English Language Learners. Having a LCD Projector will enable them to use the ELMO equipment which would most emphatically assist these students with reading.

My 4th and 5th grade DEAF and Hard of Hearing students are an exciting group of students who are severely language delayed.

This group would REALLY benefit from utilizing an LCD Projector with its accompanying ELMO equipment, especially during our READING time. Our DEAF and Hard of Hearing students attend a regular public school and are part of an INCLUSION model, whereas they attend regular general education classrooms and are exposed to the English language at a much more advanced level than that which they are used to. In order to facilitate better READING habits, they need to learn the printed word which will be projected onto a screen for ALL to see (the LCD Projector will be utilized with the ELMO equipment).

My Project

The LCD Projector will most emphatically assist our DEAF and Hard of Hearing students to learn how to READ better by utilizing the LCD Projector with the accompanying ELMO equipment. Regular hearing students read aloud and hear their classmates read; DEAF and Hard of Hearing students learn VISUALLY, not auditorally.

I am a strong believer that DEAF and Hard of Hearing children can learn to read if they are exposed to VISUAL materials as they are VISUAL learners and would undoubtedly benefit from seeing the written word and make connections with their real world.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
