Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Next month, our last unit of study for 1st grade will encompass fairy tales and poetry. The students are so excited to start this unit of study because they will not only be reading the books, but they will be using them as mentor authors during our writing workshop period.

This year my very enthuastic first graders have gained so much knowledge through our unit of studies in reader's workshop.

This proposal is our last unit before the school year finishes. My students generally come from single-parent homes where English is their second language. The picture books that have been purchased tell the stories of fairy tales from around the world. I am hoping that this unit of study not only improves my student decoding, comprehension and fluency but also helps to build a bridge between all of our cultures.

My Project

With these resources, my students will be able to use their imagination to visualize the fantasies that are unfolding in front of them. We will also be building connections between the texts that we will be reading. These two skills are extremely important for first graders to build as a foundation for next year.
