If You are a Dreamer, a Wisher, a Liar, a Hoper, a Prayer...

My Students

The books of poetry that are in my classroom look old, boring, and outdated. Poetry month is quickly approaching and while it is usually one of my students favorite things to write, they tend to ignore the books they could be reading.

I teach a 7th grade collaborative team teaching class.

This means that 40% of my class is made up of students with learning disabilities, speech/language impairments, and autism. The school that they attend is a gifted and talented school, which means that most of the books in the classroom library are not a good fit.

My Project

When we receive these books, my students will be able to have appropriate mentor texts which will enable them to fall in love with poetry. They will be able to understand what they are reading and realize that poetry can be written on their level. My students will be able to use these books in order to inspire their own poetry.

Your donation will make it possible for my students to enjoy poetry month.

Your donation will also enhance my classroom library and hopefully encourage my students to read poetry during the other months as well.
