Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a secondary science teacher in Colorado. At our K-12 International Baccalaureate school, we serve 658 students in grades K-12. 65% of our students are free or reduced lunch, and 74% are minority. My students are eager learners who are very curious about science - especially space!

My school district is located in one of the lowest income areas of the state. Our district free lunch is about 70%. The district has tried for three years to pass a bond and mill levy election, but has failed each time. But, we serve students who are just as curious about the world as they are anywhere else. We simply need resources to be able to expose them to science concepts.

I need a ripple tank with wave generator and power supply. Our state standards require students to understand light and sound waves. Another state standard requires students to understand that technology is necessary to explore space. It is essential for students to understand these concepts to understand the world around us and apply these ideas to our exploration of space. This equipment will provide my kids the understand of how wave travel in our universe that will open many doors for them.

Colorado is the perfect place to observe the heavens! Our atmosphere is this, the sky is often clear, and we have lots of kids who want to learn about the world. This equipment will be used to understand the concepts of wave interactions that we apply to our study of astronomy. Won’t you help us today?
