Because of your donation, our students had the incredible opportunity to work with Sphero robots—an experience that has opened up a world of creativity, collaboration, and learning that would not have been possible otherwise.\r\nThe Sphero bots have become one of the most engaging tools in our learning environment. These robots introduced students to the foundational concepts of coding in a way that was both fun and accessible. For many of our students, this was their first experience with programming, and it sparked curiosity and confidence that we watched grow with each activity. Students quickly moved from simple commands to more complex sequences, problem-solving collaboratively as they worked to make their bots complete obstacle courses, follow mazes, and respond to sensors.\r\nWhat makes Sphero especially powerful is the way it integrates STEM in a hands-on, meaningful way. Math, in particular, became a subject of excitement. Concepts like angles, measurement, speed, and distance—topics that can sometimes feel abstract—were brought to life through real-world application. Students were suddenly invested in calculating distances and adjusting variables, not just to \"get it right\" on paper, but to see their robot succeed in completing its task. It's hard to describe how motivating it is to see math in motion and tied to a tangible outcome.\r\nBy blending engineering, technology, and math, Sphero robots gave students a broader understanding of how these subjects interconnect. More importantly, they provided a glimpse into careers and fields that many students had never considered before. Coding, robotics, game design, engineering—these are no longer distant ideas, but real possibilities they now see as achievable. For some students, this was the moment they began to picture themselves in a STEM-related future.\r\nAnother beautiful outcome of this project was the collaboration and teamwork it fostered. Students worked in pairs and groups to plan, test, and troubleshoot their code. They encouraged each other, shared discoveries, and learned that failure is simply part of the process. These are lifelong learning skills—resilience, communication, critical thinking—that will serve them well beyond our classroom.\r\nYour donation gave students access to an enriching, future-focused experience that bridges academics with real-world skills. It allowed them to explore coding in a way that felt playful yet purposeful and gave them the opportunity to apply their math learning in a new, exciting context. This hands-on engagement is the kind of learning that sticks with them and continues to grow over time.\r\nFrom all of us—thank you. Your generosity has planted seeds of interest and potential that will continue to grow long after the school year ends. You've helped spark passion, curiosity, and confidence in the next generation of thinkers, builders, and innovators.\r\nWith deep appreciation,","fullyFundedDate":1695472138311,"projectUrl":"project/math-and-engineering-through-code/7867444/","projectTitle":"Math and Engineering through Code!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Dusenbery","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp3894240_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1482287898957","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3894240"},{"teacherId":3894240,"projectId":8573332,"letterContent":"Thank you for your generous donations to my students. We have spent the year deep learning and building meaningful experiences with the materials we obtained because of your support. Your contribution truly impacted our classroom and helped create a space where students could explore, create, and grow with purpose.\r\nThis year, our students explored a variety of career paths and engaged in thoughtful conversations about their futures. Through hands-on learning, they were able to make real-world connections between their education and the skills needed in various professions. One of the most exciting parts of the year was using the block printing materials you helped provide. These tools opened up a whole new world of creative expression for my students, many of whom had never experienced printmaking before.\r\nThe block printing process became much more than an art project; it became a therapeutic outlet and a tool for self-discovery. Many students reported feeling more calm and focused after working on their prints. The rhythmic, tactile nature of carving and printing helped ease their mental stress and gave them a sense of control and accomplishment in an often overwhelming world.\r\nOne of the most heartwarming outcomes was how students used their new skills to give back to their peers. They created cards, bookmarks, and small art pieces to give as gifts to classmates and teachers. Some even collaborated to make a mural-style series of prints to decorate a shared space in our school. These acts of kindness and creativity helped foster a stronger sense of belonging and community. The joy they felt in creating something meaningful for others was evident in every smile and every carefully crafted print.\r\nYour donation didn't just supply materials—it created opportunities. Opportunities for students to discover new talents, to express emotions they may not have had words for, and to build confidence in their ability to make something beautiful with their own hands. It supported the social-emotional development of our students while also enriching their academic experience.\r\nThese experiences are often not possible without the generosity of people like you. Our school does not always have access to the resources that allow for this level of enrichment, and your support filled a gap that made all the difference. You reminded our students that there are people beyond the walls of our school who believe in them and want to see them succeed.\r\nFrom the bottom of our hearts, thank you. Your kindness helped make this year not only educational but also joyful, creative, and deeply human. Using the fingerprinting powder and applicators, students practiced dusting for fingerprints and studied which surfaces prints could be visible on. This activity sparked discussions about the real-world application of fingerprinting in solving crimes, and students were excited to apply their learning in a tactile way. Additionally, the blood typing kit allowed students to explore the genetics of blood types and perform simulated blood typing tests, connecting biology concepts to forensics. Viewing hair samples under the microscope provided another layer of investigation, as students learned to identify differences between human and animal hair, as well as variations between individuals.\r\n\r\n\r\nStudents applied these investigative techniques in a mock crime scene project, using their newfound skills to analyze evidence and solve a case. This project integrated everything they've learned—from identifying fingerprints to interpreting blood types and analyzing hair samples—allowing them to synthesize their knowledge in a collaborative and exciting way.
