Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach first grade in a high needs area. I have seventeen students this year and many of them are English Language Learners. I also have several students who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Most of my students have had a very limited exposure to books and literacy materials. Also, our school has a very limited leveled library for guided reading instruction. My students become very frustrated because we do not have books that are appropriate for their reading level.

I know that a leveled reading classroom library would be a tremendous help for my students. It would encourage them to read and also help improve their vocabulary skills. Students would be able to easily find books that they can read. This would make reading a more enjoyable activity for them.

Your help will ensure that my students become strong readers who will develop a life long love of reading and books.
