Teens Meet through Socratic Seminars Across the Globe

My students need an LCD projector that has wireless capabilities.

Reaching out to other students across the globe through video conferencing via "Skype", will challenge my students to understand the world around them through interactions and discussions with teens living in Africa, The Netherlands, China etc. Our school is an urban school that is an internship/project based school in which I am their primary teacher for all four years. Most of my students rarely travel outside of the city they live in and I believe it is important for them to learn about the world around them through real world experiences. I am hoping through this project my students will learn about the world and connect with other teens around the world.

Through Skyping (video conferencing) on the Internet my students can have Socratic seminars (a way to discuss literature, world issues, teen issues etc.) with other teens thousands of miles away. Since my students will be graduating in 2011, and going onto college, I feel it is very important to be globally aware since our world is really very small due to technology. I want them to be prepared for college by understanding world issues and gaining new perspectives and sharing their own ideas.

It would be amazing to have a wireless LCD projector that can be used on a regular basis. My students and I can plan conferences and seminars with students from around the world. This type of real world learning is the way in which my students learn best.

Your help would make it possible to take my students from the inner city of Rhode Island to small villages in Africa, the shores of Portugal to the mountains of Turkey. The potential is endless for my students! They will be able to gain knowledge about the world that they would never find in a book. Friendships and understanding of other cultures will help my students become better global citizens of the future and with your help it can happen.
