Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach fourth grade in a rural, low-income area of Northern California. We are considered a Title I school as the vast majority of our students qualify for free and reduced lunch. We also have a high percentage of ESL (English as a Second Language) students. The technology at our school is extremely limited, as are other essential supplies such as multiple copies of texts and realia. Because of our lack of supplies, it is very difficult to provide an environment where all students have what they need at any given moment. Digital visual presenters allow students to share, demonstrate, review, model, and SEE all sorts of objects, pictures, and text that would otherwise be impossible to adequately view and use as a class. They allow for collaboration, intensive problem solving, and instant feedback. To be blunt, they have the potential to enhance every area of the school day. The benefits of such clear magnification are numerous. I am asking for the funds to purchase an ELMO Compact Visual Presenter for use in our classroom. If our proposal is successful, this presenter will allow us to: * Display immediate feedback to student work * Enlarge all textbook pages, directions, 3D objects, samples, math tools, science diagrams, historical documents, ... everything! * Model math concepts with manipulatives that everyone can see * Share picture books with the whole class, even if we only have one copy * Review examples/illustrations from our textbooks, without having to recreate problems on the whiteboard * Save pictures of completed work, ready to use the next day * Focus on particular sections of text, allowing for context understanding, vocabulary enhancement, and visual organization * Eliminate the purchase, printing, and cleaning of transparencies * Show photographs related to current areas of study, such as Gold Rush miners or Native American tools * Reduce time spent with smelly dry erase markers * Closely examine images from our reading, such as an eroding hillside or animal adaptation * Model effective note-taking * Use this equipment as a microscope to examine science specimens and experiments, student acquired objects, etc. * Share students' solutions and discoveries to the rest of the class with visual explanation * Enlarge text for students with visual impairments * And SO MUCH MORE! Your contribution will be appreciated beyond measure and will strengthen every day of the school year! Thank you for any amount you are able to donate! Wish us luck!
