I teach an amazing group of gifted students in grades third through sixth in an elementary school in Arizona.

The students are excited about the addition of a SmartBoard to the classroom for the new school year. I devoted 30 hours of my time on Saturdays throughout the past school year to learn about how the SmartBoard works and how it can be used to enhance learning. I will be devoting an additional 60 hours to the project during the 2009-2010 school year.

In an effort to be environmentally friendly and a good steward of our limited resources, my goal for the gifted classroom is to “Go Green” next year! To eliminate the use of copies and transparencies, a document camera would complement the technology that is already in the classroom (SmartBoard and 2 student computers). The document camera is the next generation of overhead projectors. It allows for displaying documents as they are – including textbooks, reading books, students’ projects, etc. The BuhlVp20m Document Camera would meet our needs. The students would be able to use the document camera to display their work. They would stay more engaged in the lessons with the addition of this piece of modern technology that compliments the current technology in the classroom, all the while contributing to the reduction of the use of paper, printer ink, markers, overhead transparencies, and other supplies.
