I teach reading skills to 6th,7th and 8th graders with a wide range of reading abilities in a very low income community.

My students need a variety of books to choose from in our classroom library for daily independent reading. I have personally bought some books this year, but have found that the interest for these particular books to be beyond my means at this time.

It is extremely difficult to get middle school kids to read and the audio books have been a wonderful solution to this problem. Instead of trying to keep kids awake during this time or listen to their synchronizing sighs each period, I actually get to teach! The high interest books and audio versions give me the opportunity to work with small groups on specific skills while others are engaged independently. Reading novels each day helps teens in all core subject areas with grammar,vocabulary, and comprehension skills.

Your donation would give these kids an opportunity to explore,analyze,relate, and escape into worlds that they might otherwise never know. There is no greater feeling than when one of my reluctant readers comes to me to ask if they can take the book home to read or ask when my next payday is so I can buy them more! Small steps to great futures!
