Open the World of Reading to 2nd Grade. I teach 2nd grade in a school in a regular neighborhood. Our school is not Title 1, so we do not get the many additional funds and grants that Title 1 schools receive. So most of the extras we get for our students come out of our own pockets.

Having an independent reading center with a variety of books on cds will greatly enhance the reading skills of my students. It will also open up the world to them because I hope to have books and cds from all genres along with nonfiction informational texts which are more difficult for younger students to read alone. My students have a reading level span from levels 1-8. It would be very beneficial for the students to have books on their own level to read & listen to independently while I am working with other reading groups.

I need 3 personal cd players and a variety of genres and levels of books with cd. These will serve my class of 24 students this year and for many years to follow.

This will give my students the opportunity for independent reading practice and also let them be able to choose the topics they are learning about during their center time.
