I teach in a first grade Collaborative Team Teaching classroom with both general and special education students. I work in a Title I school in New York City. Our school is in a very high need community.

Our school does not offer an art specialist to teach the children. I am responsible for introducing art to the children. Most of our money is spent on books and learning materials. I feel that art and creativity is very important and that the children should be exposed to much more. The children need to be challenged when it comes to art! Coloring a picture is not enough!

My classroom needs resources such as brushes, paper, pom-poms, and crafts. I have wonderful ideas and projects that I would like to create, however, the supplies are very limited. My students will continue to enjoy art using many different materials. They will see that art can be created without the use of just crayons. The students need these resources in order to complete projects. Unfortunately, it is impossible for me to ask for these types of materials from the school or the parents.

You can make a great difference by donating art supplies to my class. My students will begin to appreciate art at such a young age. It will be something that they will remember forever. You can make it possible for my students to enjoy art and look forward to creating new things.
